I stumbled upon a broadcast of eTown on my way home last night, I rarely am driving around at 7pm on a Sunday so it’s not inconceivable that I wouldn’t have heard this before. So what is eTown, well according to their about us page, they are a hippie radio focused on music and community. Basically they pull in cool people, cool musicians and talk about ways to make life a little better. It’s a neat format and they are gracious enough to have much of what they do available via podcasts. You can also track down a local broadcast. The show has been around for 15 years, can’t believe I’ve never heard of it before now.
There is sad news today from New York, jazz legend and champion for African Americans Max Roach has passed away. Mr. Roach was a tremendously talented, studied and brilliant human being. He was awarded for both his percussive and mental mastery and his social awareness. For more info, check out the New York Times article on Mr. Roach’s passing.

Catching On - Great clip from Austin City Limits (that guitar lick is infectious)
There’s a hilarious article in the latest Onion parodying Activisions’s Guitar Hero franchise. Check it out when you get a chance, you don’t have to be a band geek to find the humor but it certainly helps.
Speaking of band geekiness, a project I recently wrapped up for former teacher and Orlando’s TImber Creek HIgh School percussion instructor Clif Walker, has launched. Clif and crew are taking their indoor percussion efforts to the most elite level, stop by and support them, these kids are outstanding, performing at a level we struggled to attain in college.
I’m guessing the use(s) of Vanilla Fudge’s cover of You Keep Me Hanging On in the Sopranos Finale are why it’s so popular on iTunes this week. Funny how that works…hope Carmine and the boys get their due.

Buy the new Wilco Album (Sky Blue Sky). Listen to them on A Prairie Home Companion Saturday or watch them on Letterman Tuesday. Make it Wilco Week…

Joe Jackson
Ed Shaughnessy - I would bring him shirts so he could change during the set because he would sweat through them :)
