Wikia Business Model

I agree with may of the comments posted at TechCrunch’s article on Wikia’s new CEO.

Notably Gregory’s comments on their model:

It’s sad when a website can use free software (MediaWiki), base a site on a famous site almost completely (Wikipedia), and end up getting $4 million and a famous CEO…But, still, I don’t see how they could raise $4 million with what looks like a striped down and Google-Ad-ized version of Wikipedia…

I don’t get it either. You’d think $4 million would at least get you a new stylesheet, heck maybe even some gradients and a legit logo.
