Brian at Weblogs Work has posted his latest worknotes podcast. Thanks to Josh and Brian for the invitation and opportunity to participate in the discussion.
This is my first real podcast and I noticed that I really need to work on my “ohs”, “ums” and rambling. I’ll try and do better next time.
As opposed to shutting up…
Only a couple of hours invested but as you can see quite a difference.
I don’t want to beat a dead horse but there’s a design issue that drives me nuts. We all know that there are thousands of ways design (or undesign) impacts us on any given day.
So for me, one great example of design vs (un)design - magnolia vs delicious as it were - is newspaper website design. In general I think 99.9% of online paper design is awful. Most papers have failed to leap the chasm into the digital age. Yes they have technology and yes they may use bolgs and RSS and mobile connections, etc. But they still don’t “get” designing for their online audience. As an Orlando resident the Sentinel is my daily read and I have to hold my nose every time that homepage loads. In an effort to understand why it offends me so I broke it down and placed it up against the New York Times. Check out the breakdown below and see what you think. I believe it’s fair to say the Sentinel is a little heavy on navigation and monkey ads.

Disney will be turning the spin off for one of two of it’s Mission Space ride queues this summer. Two deaths in year mean that it has to (partially) abandon it’s $100 million investment in this innovative experience.
Beginning this summer guests will have two choices when riding Epcot’s Mission: Space. Visitors can either go on the current attraction or a new version which will provide a milder no-spin experience. In the new version, the spinning centrifuge will be turned off for guests who are subject to motion sickness or have other health issues. Signs will be posted in the queue area outlining the differences between the two rides. “By offering a second adventure, we hope to broaden the appeal of “Mission: Space” and enable even more guests to experience the attraction,” said Al Weiss, president of Walt Disney World Resort.

The Big Noob’s PureVolume Widget is probably the most perfectest of widgets I’ve seen. Form, function and new music. Sweet.
Cool people grab it here…
Nice little bit of nonsense for the morning read. One of the most disjunct and unfocused entries of all time.
It’s a design blog that says design is expensive, contradictory and unnecessary…um maybe not the best blog direction to take. But wait later he says design is good, but wait maybe not. What a mess. I blame Scoble for starting this crap.
UPDATE
All the words I wish I had on this subject. Thoughtful, complete and concise.
Thanks to the crew at nGen Works for their praise of all things crawlspace today. If you are ever in Orlando feel free to drop me a line.
One minor correction to the ngen post, I’m really not about sports at all, I just know that most people are…so I gives the people what they want. It’s just the kind of non-athletic, tv-watching guy I am.
